YSCPCS will provide a total language experience in a multicultural setting for pupils whose parents would like them to have the advantage of becoming proficient in two or three world languages by the time they complete the kindergarten through grade five sequence of the program.
YSCPCS provides a carefully articulated planned educational program for each student with limited English proficiency that allows the student to meet and exceed the state academic standards and succeed in school.
The founders of the YSCP Charter School believe that all areas of the Pennsylvania Academic Standards must receive emphasis in order for all of the students to be successful. Because this is an elementary school, it is envisioned that it will be an excellent academic “foundation” from the start of the students' educational experience.
The founders believe that leading by example is the best way to inspire change. Through the development of a school with challenging standards of academic excellence, which results in higher achievement scores; through the inclusion of all students regardless of racial, ethnic background, language barriers, educational classifications, or socio-economic status; and through the demonstrated satisfaction of students and families alike, the impetus for change in the region public schools will be realized.
Certain areas of emphasis will be made:
Language
The school will emphasize proficiency in the English language for
it is the ultimate tool for successful communication and is a must
for academic achievement. Recognizing that there may be many
students who speak English a second language at home, the school
will make concerted efforts to accommodate and welcome these
students and provide for their needs, while promoting the use of English.
The YSCPCS will utilize every resource to prevent any student to suffer
from low academic achievement due to lack of proficiency in English
language. In addition, Chinese and Spanish will be introduced for all students,
and proficiencies expected according to the performance indicators of the
curriculum.
YSCPCS proposes a multi-language curriculum which will entail instruction
in English (primary) and two other globally significant languages, Chinese and Spanish.
Spanish: One of the official languages of the U.N. Is spoken in Spain and in
most countries in South America . One of the most widely used languages in the world.
Also, in U.S. It is important to know Spanish in social sciences and education.
Turkish: Globally important and one of the federally funded critical languages;
one of the more populous constituencies in State College
Chinese: Globally important; the most populous international group in State College.
One of the official languages accepted by U.N. Chinese : In Demand Language

Technology
This is the time of the digital revolution. Rather than being an add-on,
computer technology will be integrated into the classrooms, with computer-assisted
learning included where effective. All students will have opportunities to
become aware of the availability of and utilize various types of current and
newly emerging technology throughout the curriculum, including video,
audio media and computer software. Audio-video equipment will be
available for each classroom, while computers will be available in the
classrooms; and K through 5 grades will have computer lab instruction.
YSCP will use cutting edge technology in its unique educational program. At YSCP Charter School , technology is a key aspect of the curriculum. We want all of our students to not only be comfortable with technology, but to embrace it as an enhancement to their everyday lives.
To support this effort, we will utilize a mobile Tablet PC lab that will be available to all of our students. There will be a laptop available for every student, and throughout the day, teachers can bring the laptops into the classroom to support the lessons they are teaching.
Academic Motivation and Competition
For those students who demonstrate the interest, opportunities will be
provided for participation in national and international academic competition.
An atmosphere of “personal best” will prevail, with students encouraged to
reach for excellence, within their potential. The rewards of accomplishment
are designed to result in the “lifelong love of learning” so that students will
continue to seek further education beyond the limits of this school. Personal Social Development
Emphasis is on the child as a whole person with individual-social, and
academic-behavioral aspects. Children must learn early to develop desirable
character traits including personal leadership qualities, independent thinking,
problem solving, conflict resolution, peer interactions, and the development of
personal and social interests such as participation in clubs, athletics and community service. Math and Science
While all areas of the Pennsylvania State Standards (PSS) will be emphasized,
it is believed that it is necessary to begin early to establish the foundations
needed to encourage careers in the areas of math and science. Therefore
additional focus will be upon these academic areas, as well as opportunities
for competitions.
